Glass Watering Bulb

For years many advantages and disadvantages of incandescent over fluorescent lamps have been described. With the addition of CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lights), LED and other technologies, the debate has shifted somewhat. But first, some scientists elementary ...
Incandescent lamps acquired the name because what they are doing is essentially burn (ie incandescent, light or heat). A thin tungsten filament is located in a depression. The electricity flows through the wire and because target = "_top"> offers resistance to the flow of electrons, it warms. Soon, the temperature is high enough to make the metal shine.
The interior of the incandescent bulb is usually covered with a disseminating material to reduce the reflection of light on a clear glass bulb. Although, of course, there are many clear glass ampoules around. This does not change the basic way the bulb works, but it does not change the look.
This look is mostly the result of the ability of the bulb to closely emulate the wavelength of light given off by the sun. This is determined largely by the temperature of its surface, about 6000 degrees Kelvin. That's about 5700 degrees Celsius, since K = C + 273. That's about 10,300 F. This similarity is measured by the so-called color temperature.
Bulbs interior is often a little further down the color temperature, more towards blue as the yellow sun. But do not confuse the color temperature with the actual temperature. Incandescent light bulbs usually from anywhere 120F-200F (49C-93C) or higher. Water boils at 220F or 100C, if it gives you an idea of how it can be hot.
In contrast, a fluorescent bulb is much cooler because it generates light in an entirely different way.
The inside of the fluorescent bulb and the electrodes are vapor-thin, usually mercury and other trace gases. A voltage is applied to one electrode at one end of a long tube and the electrons are springs to the other end, bumping cons mercury atoms along the path. When they do, they give energy to its electrons. When the mercury atoms release this energy again it appears in the form of light.
This process generates much less waste energy as heat. Who provides the main reason why fluorescent bulbs are much more effective. In other words, they can produce about the same amount of light (measured in lumens) for the same energy put into them because less is wasted as heat.
Remember that incandescent glow because filament is heated white. Which produces a lot of heat for the amount of light emitted. The result for you, the consumer is that you pay for a large deal more electricity over the long term to heat a wire in case of incandescent bulbs.
On the other hand, fluorescent does not produce the temperature or the same color spectrum as incandescent lamps. Modern CFLs are close, but they have still not quite the same look as a "regular light bulb" light. Consequently, fluorescent have for decades been reserved for areas where the look is not considered so important, as the garage.
However, the initial cost of a fluorescent bulb is 3-10 times a standard 75 or 100 watt bulb. Thus, trade is out of electricity savings during life of the bulb (about 6,000-15,000 hours for fluorescent 750-1,000 hours for incandescent lamps) versus initial investment costs. In their lifetime, a fluorescent lamp can save an average of about 70% of the total cost, including purchase price and electricity bill.
While the discussion on the recent environment has entered the debate, in fact, the contribution of the bulbs is so small that it is hardly worth mentioning. Much more important factors, such as industrial gases, exhaust emissions from motor and other products are thousands of many times greater than the total produced by the lighting of houses.
Thus, advantages and disadvantages former continue to apply. At least they did until LEDs came on stage ... But that is another subject.
